Volunteers: We need you!
The Moran Center needs a core group of attorneys, who have expertise in legal matters, including educational law, consumer law, criminal law, family law, guardianship, housing law, immigration/asylum, and traffic issues to volunteer at our monthly Ask a Lawyer sessions (First Tuesday of every month from 6-8pm). These volunteer attorneys will provide general information, referrals, and advice.   If the brief service, however, is not enough to resolve the problem and it is determined that the case is meritorious, the Moran Center will refer the case to a Panel of Evanston attorneys, who may take on meritorious cases pro bono.

We need lawyers to serve as both Monthly Volunteer Attorneys and Panel Attorneys. Here are brief descriptions of the two roles:

Monthly Volunteer Attorneys’ responsibilities will include:

o Attending a volunteer orientation meeting;

o Reviewing legal issues of pre-registered clients prior to the Ask a Lawyer session;

o Assisting clients with resolving their legal issues in an efficient manner, while directing clients with non-legal problems to the on-site social workers;

o Assisting in identifying meritorious legal claims for review by the Moran Center’s Panel of attorneys.

Panel Attorneys’ responsibilities will include:

o Attending a volunteer orientation meeting;

o Reviewing an electronic compilation of meritorious cases following the monthly Ask a Lawyer sessions; and

o Accepting pro bono cases depending upon your interest, expertise, and availability.

If you are interested in or have questions about serving as a Monthly Volunteer Attorney and/or Panel Attorney, please contact Naria Santa Lucia, (847) 492-1410 or nsantalucia@moran-center.org.
